Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Coupe: An 850-hp S63 AMG with More “More”

Call us crazy, but Brabus’s latest creation, the 850 6.0 Biturbo Coupe—essentially a modified Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG coupe—seems almost . . . boring. Make no mistake, 850 horsepower and a possible 1069 lb-ft of torque (limited to just 848 lb-ft to spare the driveline) from a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V-8 is spicy, and Brabus even managed to avoid messing up the big Benz coupe’s elegant styling with its cosmetic upgrades. But when you can get the same power in the smaller and lighter Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG–based Brabus 850 6.0, even the S63 AMG coupe’s gorgeous looks aren’t enough to sway our power-to-weight ratio–dominated thinking.


Just as you get in the E63-based Brabus 850 6.0, the Biturbo Coupe gets a version of AMG’s twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-8 bored out half a liter to six—see the “6.0” in the name—and sprinkled with Brabus go-fast bits. The turbochargers are new, as are larger pistons, an enlarged exhaust downpipe, a special intake, reworked cylinder heads, and a Brabus crankshaft. Brabus tosses in heat-reflective gold shielding for some engine-bay eye candy it claims is functional; the stuff wraps the intake and the charged-air turbo plumbing to keep the engine’s breathing apparatus cooler.

Buyers can choose to corral the Biturbo’s 850 horses through the S63 AMG’s standard 4MATIC all-wheel drive or—intriguingly—they can opt for a rear-drive version. (Yes, please, we like burnouts!) Brabus claims the modded S63 is the “world’s fastest four-place, all-wheel-drive coupe,” with a zero-to-62-mph time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed electronically limited to 217 mph. A carbon-fiber aerodynamics kit and a 0.6-inch suspension drop helps keep the big two-door stable at those speeds (assuming it can actually hit them), and there is a choice of 21- or 22-inch monoblock aluminum wheels. For now, the 850 Biturbo coupe is being debuted at the 2015 Geneva auto show and no pricing is available, but Brabus has never been known to keep things affordable. That said, if you want something affordable and more exciting, there’s always the smaller Brabus 850 6.0 sedan or the ridiculously awesome wagon version.
